Some recent happenings have made me think more about the many ways in which we care for our horses. There are so many different viewpoints, so many different opinions, and so many different methods. Every horse is different, and every horse owner is different.

We may agree or disagree on things like feeding and turnout and training methods and which tack and grooming products to use and which vets and farriers to use. One way may work well for one horse and not so well for another.

I think it is important to be an educated, open-minded horse owner, but it is also important to know your horse and know yourself and stick to your guns when necessary.

I think it is also important to work WITH your vet and farrier, not against them. Of course this means finding professionals with whom you and your horse can do this, and one vet and one farrier may work for one horse and not for another. I myself have used several different vets and farriers over the years, and I now have a much better idea of what my horses and I are looking for.

So those are my thoughts for my first blog post in a very long time.
